On July 29th, the Columbus Saints departed for the DCI Southeastern Regional held at the Historic Georgia Dome, in Atlanta, GA. Completing our second long distance trip this year, the corps traveled to the Colts housing site for a quick morning break, and onward to the Georgia Dome; the home of the Atlanta Falcons, in Atlanta, GA. This completes the Saints touring for the summer as we move towards our final local competition at DCI World Championships Soundsport on August 13th.

Competing against six (6) other ensembles, the Columbus Saints won their first Gold Medal in the corps history. Taking Gold in Visual and General Effect and Silver in Music, the corps brought the crowd to their feet with their show. Featuring a new addition; a classic throwback “Soul Train” line referencing the pivotal music program and featured dance movement showcased on the Chicago classic show; the crowd and judges couldn’t get enough. Joined on the field during retreat by many alumni, and volunteers, the announcement of Gold Medal filled the members with energy and excitement for such a great and overall positive experience.
Drum Corps International also took a few minutes to interview our Executive Director; Marshall Cheatham, and Assistant Director; Le Ron J. Carlton which can be found here: “SoundSport teams fill Georgia Dome with big sights, sounds”
