Central Ohio Drumline for Inner-city Youth Expands Programs to Include Drum & Bugle Corps, SoundSport Activity

Columbus, Ohio —  The Saints Drumline today announced that they have changed their name to the Columbus Saints Performing Arts Inc. and will launch a drum & bugle corps unit based here in central Ohio.  The name change comes with new branding and an expanded staff as the organization plans to compete in Drum Corps International’s (DCI) new SoundSport competitions and other DCI and Drum Corps Associates (DCA) activities.  The expansion will add brass, color guard, and drum majors to the performing group that has fielded drumlines and drill teams in central Ohio since 2003.

This will mark the return of drum & bugle corps to central Ohio, an activity that has many fans in the area but currently has no active, local organizations offering local participants that ability to perform in the activity.  “We want to give local performers the opportunity to perform on the marching field.  Expanding our program to include brass horn players will open more performance opportunities and enhance the experience of students we already have participating in the Saints Drumline and Angels Drill Teams.” said Marshall Cheatham, the founder and Executive Director of the Columbus Saints organization.

Local drum & bugle corps fans will recognize the Saints organization from their performance this past summer when the Saints Drumline won the DCI Drumline Battle at the Emerald City Games in Dublin, Oh.  An open house toy drive on Saturday, December 14th, 2014 at Africentric Early College, in historic German Village at 300 E. Livingston Avenue Columbus, OH 43215 will welcome the community to give a preview of the organization’s plans and will serve as the start of the 2014 season.  Performers, parents, volunteers, and fans are welcome to attend the open house.  Plans are underway to attend performances in Ohio and surrounding states during the summer of 2014.  “This will be a huge step forward for our organization and for the marching arts in central Ohio.  We welcome everyone to come to the open house and learn more about the ways you can become involved in our organization.” said Cheatham.
