HBCU Fam – We Want You To Join The Saints!
The Columbus Saints are a community nonprofit founded by Tennesse State alumnus, Alpha Phi Alpha member, and St Andrew’s Hornets Drum Corps alumni Marshall Cheatham. Originally an HBCU styled drumline the Saints transition to a competitive drum & bugle corps and winter guard after 2014.
Building on the rich tradition of African-Americans drum and bugle corps such as Cadets of NYC, CMCC Warriors, Mighty Liberators , Giles Yellow Jackets and more we work to ensure drum corps is affordable and accessible to the community. So many of our Saints members and alumni have become student performers at colleges like Talledega College, Central State, Kentucky State, Jackson State, and more using their experience in drumline and drum corps.
We want you – a lover of band – to join the Saints family! With your help and guidance, we will continue to create a unique one-of-a-kind experience that builds on our HBCU style legacy while breaking down barriers in the marching arts. We want you to get involved as a performer on brass, drums, and color guard in our all-age corps, educational or admin staff, volunteer, or as a board member driving development for the organization.
This is the year we want to strengthen those bonds by inviting alumni of these programs to bring their talent, style, and flair to the Saints. We offer a variety of programs that engage performers across all socioeconomic backgrounds while featuring a diverse and engaged staff. Our shows often engage elements of our HBCU legacy with selections from funk, R&B, jazz, and swing artists, while ensuring we educate members on the importance of these artists, and the impact of African-American culture.
